He also travelled around Italy, founding new convents and announcing the Gospel.
He also dropped around Subiaco with Cardinal Ugolino, who later would have become Pope. Anyway, a monk, during his visit to the Monastery of Saint Benedict in Subiaco, took a portrait of him: that is the most ancient and unique original portrait of the Saint. The Abbot at that time donated him a little church by the river. That church became a convent, the cloister of St. Francis in Subiaco.

St. Francis Cloister opens only on request.
Saint Benedict monastery opens every day, from 9.00 A.M. to 12.30 and from 3.00 P.M. to 6.30 P.M.

The entrances are free of charge, but a liberal offer is warmly recommended: this will support the nuns and the monks who take care of these amazing places.

St.Francis cloister is wheelchair friendly (there is a steep ramp though).
